Some Truths I Learnt... Poem by Dr John Celes

Some Truths I Learnt...

I know most people's minds,
And problems faced by them;
And how it hurts one's heart,
When others scoff at you.

I know each patient's state;
Apathy, how they hate;
I know the students' needs;
The art of teaching great.

I know no one's perfect;
All have some demerits;
Just take the good from each,
And keep the things going.

I know I am no God;
I speak the truth always;
Tell lies and get the rod,
Truth triumphs any day.

Before you question next,
Find out within your part;
Had you then done better,
Things could have gone on well.

Before you point at next,
Introspect your defects;
Before you ridicule,
List out your own mistakes.

'Tis easy throwing blames;
'Tis easy to abuse;
Living straight is best;
To God, you leave the rest.

The world is now a den,
With jackals, wild beasts, hen;
You never can know when,
A new born babe is killed!

Some human thoughts are queer;
Some human acts, bizarre;
Some hearts like devils turn,
Destroying righteous souls.

However well you plan,
Whatever you propose,
Success comes by God's nod,
And not by man's efforts.

You better labor hard;
Never expect rewards;
If lucky, get awards;
With God, keep your accord.

Our life on earth is short,
However long, you live;
Try being virtuous, good;
Amass heavenly wealth.

Ill-gotten wealth will rot,
And worms will eat your corpse;
Your body turns to ash,
From clay, we came, and go!

God's Book of Life records,
The good and bad you do;
Accounts, we all must give;
Excuses, will not help.

Treat others as thyself;
Love brethren unlucky;
Have mercy on the sick;
Trust God, and things go well.

Some things can awry turn;
But miracles happen;
As God forgives your sins,
You must forgive others.

God's grace helps us achieve;
Nothing we do on own;
Nothing we own on earth;
Nothing we take at death.

Why fight and feel jealous?
Why hurt your dear colleagues?
No one is great or small;
One God, belongs to all.

Religions shouldn't divide;
Merit can't be side-lined;
A lazy fool will sleep,
By day or when stars peep!
