Soldiers Hang Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Soldiers Hang

I

the soldiers on the walls they
hang
Is this a siege?
A siege of the brain?
Are the soldiers clambering
the fort of the brain?
The Soul?
The Inner Soul?
of sudden honey dripped
down the wall as
in buckets thrown
from elfin hands
and it was night.
startled
the soldiers stopped.
the honey scented
the stop the seige
feast on the honey.
the soldiers on the walls they
hang
O Earth
O Mother Earth
O Mother

II

the brain must not be stuffed
with the same stuff
and remain and
remain
and remain
whither the brain stem
from ancient times
it has so much to speak
but speaks
not our language
but in neuron shocks
hormones
directions
and all that goes
with the earth's city capital.
I must move, evolve, and move
and more evolve,
more move.

III

A cycle in evolution goes.
Let evolution as of cycles
be.
the gas of yellow
fever in the brain
pregnant with
discoveries
discoveries of Principles
theories that be the things
that once read
we will touch and have -
see, see
look into, read, my philosophy
and neglect not
my science equally.

IV

a gas that predominant
in current waves
along the straits in a
brain
passed strutting
head held high
in the pebbly beach
not far small light
short and pig tailed
walk
but all be light
no eyes
but little feet
that on the scalded pebbles
walk
around
anon
a mist will rise
will form
fro molecules in surprise
that by chance and
accident of magic sheer
they came

V

palms in the town
fresh winds
neighing their ways
from the white waved sea edges
and the salty spume
and tricks of
nocturnal magic.
the town is red and
deep of midnight comes
near
midnight almost be.
the beach solitary be
clear
for the dance of the
satyrs
fauns
elves
nymphs
and all the rest of the sub-conscious
tribe.
hear! hear!
the dance noises
as silver waves appear.
