So-Called Equality Poem by Raymond Farrell

So-Called Equality

This word equality
Has become the new jewel
In the progressive crown
Of the political left everywhere
This rush to gain
The political upper hand
In the arena of moral relativism
In a society addicted
To fast food and instant gratification
Unwittingly becomes an exercise
In sowing seeds
Whose fruit is fatal
To the culture involved
Where equality of opportunity
Is replaced by equality of outcome
Where objective standards
Are distorted or eliminated
To make amends for past wrongs
But in the process
New wrongs are committed
And equalities are created
All with their inevitable consequences
And backlash
Asking today's youth to atone
For yesterday's sins
They did not commit
By pushing the most talented aside
To accommodate the mediocre
Is not the solution needed
And will only hasten
The surpassing of Western culture
By those with a different agenda
Who understand the basic notion
That those applicants with the highest score
Irrespective of their skin color
Deserve to be promoted
And to allow institutions of higher learning
To admit less qualified applicants
And then engage in grade inflation
Will in time undermine
Their credibility on the world stage.
