So Many Roads Poem by Francis Duggan

So Many Roads

So many roads i have driven up and down
Since i walked on the far off streets of Millstreet Town
And all i retain of the past is the memory
Of the what once was and never more will be

Time does not wait it just ticks on and on
And at midnight this evening today will have gone
Only in memory we are linked to the past
And time does not wait it keeps on ticking fast

Tomorrow will dawn as today has done
For most people maybe but not everyone
But eventually for all of us a last night and day
Since we are born to die life works in this way

It was my love of adventure that brought me far south
Of the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
And though the past may have gone the memories of it we retain
And favourite places in visualizations we visit again

I may never again see the Town of Millstreet
Or walk on the old fields where the waterways meet
But in my visualizations in the prime of the Spring
On a leafy tree i hear a male robin sing.
