Snapshot Memory Poem by Kristina Stockamp

Snapshot Memory

I have seen
a castle bustling with life
built in a dessert
that was named after death.

I have touched soil turned blood red
from the loss of our humanity,
and swam in turbulent rivers
that lead to translucent waters.

Stood on stout mountains
silent about their secrets,
and walked beside the devil;
held the hand of God.

I have listened to the sound
of Mother Nature’s love
whispered on the wind,
and smelled the scent of wildflowers
that will not allow their beauty
to be tamed.

The world has embraced me
too late.

I have let the sands of time
slip through open fingers because
only death is worth more
than your snapshot memory.
