Sleeper, Arise Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

Sleeper, Arise

Oh, sleeper arise
How long will you continue
To sleep? Wake up from your
Slumber; Let your soul and
Heart comes alive.
Do not die the death
Of a sleeper; find a helper
Arise from your lukewarmness,
Shake off yourself from
The dust of complacency.
Break off the yoke that binds,
And the burden of lethargy
Oh sleeper,
Do not sleep the sleep
Of death, arise
Do not let your courtyard
Be overgrown with weed;
Go learn from the ant’s creed.
They have no leader
Yet, prepare them selves
For the period of summer.
Oh sleeper, arise
Don’t you know; too much
Sleep is like an arm robber;
Ready to rob you of your life
It will short change,
And undermine your destiny.
Do not be like a hunter;
Who went to catch game?
But, too lazy to roast it.
Taking too much pleasure
In sleep; and sleeping
Arise, oh sleeper.
