Skin Deep Poem by Burt Poole

Skin Deep

There is no place for prejudice
within the human race,
Basing one’s love or hatred on
the color of the face.
For we have no choice of color
as we wait within the womb
And we must take what we’ve been
given from our birthplace
to the tomb.
From the moment we’re delivered to
the hour that we die
We will take our color with us
though it’s only single ply.
One may use a lot of makeup spend
much time beneath the sun
Which might make one more attractive
or from sun rays real
well-done!
So, if one thinks he’s better by
the pigment of his skin
He’d be wise to break his mirror
and then take a look within.
He may find a lot of secrets there
within the soul
Pride and selfhish motives that
make one less than whole.
There may be a need for healing,
lest one suffer total loss—
It can be found where all are equal
in the shadow of the Cross.
