Single Aged Freedom Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

Single Aged Freedom

Rating: 5.0

Loneliness, the bitter cup of the single aged
Empty days dragging to days of no conclusion
Sharing, now a long ago faded memory
Sipping tastelessly from its despair daily
Bittersweet getting harder to swallow
Wandering the corridors of thought aimlessly
Nomadic yet so static
Dragged down into depressions pit
Wallowing in the self pity and seclusion
Unable to recognise the decline
Diminishing with sunshine’s elopement
Caught in the whirlpools grip
Lower and lower dragged to destruction
Freefalling and no hope of landing
Single and free?
More like single and dying slow
One piece at a time
Agonising to stay
Unwilling to leave
Yet the spirit dies
It dies slowly
All hope of redemption gone
Laughter slaughtered on its cutting block
This is the freedom of aging singleness
