Simple Summer Joy Poem by bryan wallace

Simple Summer Joy

The five-year old girl,
Sits on a park bench
Expectantly,
Waiting impatiently,
Looking towards her mother.

The look of impatience -
Slowly changing,
Into a smile of bona-fide glee
As her mother approaches -
Returning from the ice-cream van
Bearing the anticipated treat -
The ice-cream cone -
Strawberry sauce and Cadbury's flake -
One of the simple joys of Summer.

Yet we lose -
With passing years of maturity,
The ability to live the moment -
To enjoy the simple pleasures -
Living the moment – making
Everyday as pleasant
As an ice-cream on a sunny June afternoon.
