Shield Of Futility Poem by Ima Ryma

Shield Of Futility

Sword in one hand, shield in other,
Since the beginning man has warred
To pit brother against brother,
To test the stronger shield and sword.
Around the world the soldiers roam,
The swords of victors waving high.
On shield, the fallen be borne home.
The victors live until they die
In the next war they'll surely wield,
Then these soldiers will know fate's turn,
Being borne home upon the shield.
The whims of war, man does not learn.

Achilles with shield warred with zeal,
Until he was shot in his heel.
