Sheila Poem by Angela Wybrow

Sheila

Rating: 5.0

You've now reached the age of eighty-five,
And you're still, very much, truly alive;
Behind your face - behind those beautiful eyes,
Is a mind which is sharp and so incredibly wise.

Some folk of your age are sitting waiting to die,
But you're still flying so free and flying so high.
You're truly unique: you've broken the mould;
You're one in a million; you're genuine gold.

From the race of life, you aren't yet set to retire,
And your attitude is one which should be really admired;
Your courage, bravery and your determination,
Are enough to inspire an entire nation.

You keep pushing on - you won't back down,
But, you've always been one to keep your feet on the ground;
Over the years, you have received some great accolades.
Of taking on a challenge, you are very rarely afraid.

Of you, your daughters can feel immensely proud,
As you still have a voice and it's still shouting loud;
Your voice, it sings out - it sings loud and strong,
But you're not finished yet: you're still mid-song.

You may now have reached eighty-five years of age,
But you're still a regular face on both screen and stage;
In your twilight years, you are still full of wonder,
Proving that age itself is just merely a number.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I recently saw Sheila Hancock in the film, 'Edie', which I loved. I was extremely impressed that she actually climbed the mountain in the film, despite her age. Very admirable!
