She Can Pretend Sanity Poem by Clete Peters

She Can Pretend Sanity

She can pretend sanity
Better than any woman
I have ever known
She can be Alluring
She can be very beautiful

Within hours
We were sleeping together
Within days we were in love
Within a week
We were planning a life together

Within a month
She was gone
Acting as if a single text
'sweet dreams'
Was as horrific as
Me standing on her porch
Masked
Duct tape
Rope and
A knife
Concealed in a bag on my shoulder.
