She Believes That Poem by Anna Pae

She Believes That

she will be 7 tomorrow
she believes that
when you die
you will turn into
an animal
a cat a rattlesnake
a woodpecker
all options are likely

she believes in kindness
and being silly
she asks me
where bellybuttons
come from about
how to make a will
and if i believe in god

she believes that
i should give
the locket i bought
last week to one
of my daughters
when i grow up

i don't have
daughters yet i tell
her but you will
she says

she believes that
all things should
be equal that even
love should be
divided equally like
cherries on a cake

she believes that
doing handstands
is a much better
way of spending
your time than
learning the twelve
times tables

she believes that
when you love
someone you should
tell it to them
all the time
i think
she is right.
