Shape-Shifting Moods Poem by James Darwin Smith II

Shape-Shifting Moods

Venomous angst
Never forget
Deep within
The push and shove
It exists
Within this peaceful existence

Non-violent
Yet, inner turmoil
The evil twin
Of a fit rage
Cerebral madness
Ascending in a bitter raging twist

Love me in the calm
The storm I hate the most
Though if needed
I will fight hard
If I need to be hurt
For the worst
To protect someone's worth

Only a viper
When vehemently provoked
And for this venom
One's mind
Will never find the antidote
Of things to come

I am of nature
Leave us alone
Or feel the wrath
Beyond your own comprehension

I am of earth
Skin and bone
Bleeding for survival
In the spirit
Of peace and love

I am no one's manipulation
But a viper
In defensive formation
Ready to strike
This venom
Into the hearts
Of no tomorrow

Never cross a venomous rage
When it stares at you
Right smack dab in the face
The toxic eyes will take you
To places you never existed
The forbidden places of fate

My truest form is a cardinal flying high
Please never turn me into a viper

Save me from all of this hate
Shape me into the right mood
So I can feel the comfort
Of loving again and again and again

Let us be free
Come fly high with me
May our love
Take us beyond
The coldest blooded of places

Let us finally destroy this venomous angst
Shape-shifting moods for good

Away we go, far away from here
