Serpentine Poem by Brian Campbell

Serpentine

I
do
Not
Fail
Now.
Would I have believed
I had fallen into beauty before?
None so pure as this?
There was a time when I believed in angels,
Their white, fluffy wings upon their backs
That glistened in the shining sun.
I believed in their kind smile,
Their gentle, sweet voice
Calling ever so softly
To come.
I believed in you.
I touched your wings
And I soared
Above the clouds
Into Heaven itself.

Yet even angels,
Can be struck
By thunderbolts.

As you plunged
Down from heaven
Lucifer greeted you
With horrid
Wicked
Transfiguration.
My faith in you broke
Your wings I coveted
Bore blood sacrifice,
Bones weaved together
With the feathers
Of vultures.
Your smile
Faded into a scowl,
Dripping acid.
As commanding Sirens
You beckon for me.
Remember this:
I do not fail now.
So slither
Away
On the
Belly of
A
Snake.
