Secrets Poem by Randy Briggs

Secrets

for what seems like forever
of which in actuality, on a relative scale, slighty
just the beginning, love is built.
inside of this, foundations are laid,
of the most important and enduring is trust.
trust that what you have known and been told is
all that you have developed for this other and the
ideal of this other.
than after a while, with some comfort though mainly a
discomfort it is admitted to you of a secret from this one
this one you have placed trust.
and this secret blows a hole through your
knowledge and image of the other.
secrets can damage only this damage i felt
was more out of the love i placed for this person.
although I have never felt more alive I have
also never felt more abandoned by myself or
my own willingness to not acknowledge.
surely out of this confession comes a greater love.
yet my trust for the other has reduced to that of a
mere stranger.
only love will repair and re-develop this trust.
but secrets I have kept none.
yet she had kept one, and kept it up consciously.
now it is spilled out and laid out and I have devoured into it.
