Secessionists (New Biafra Agitators) Poem by Onuora ilodibe

Secessionists (New Biafra Agitators)

Rating: 5.0

A virulent spiral of buds
Growing in the swamp and creeks
Rose petals burn to peats
Peering through window lattice
Their ears and minds receptive

Sudden whisper transformed to agitation
Hue and cry against oppression
Shrinking violets made way for mushrooms
Raucous disco blaring out the ballroom
Outlandishly irritates the blimp conservatives
Rabble rousers farragoes for secession

Poisoned water for consumption
Contaminated impure even for ablution
Sever famine and disease outbreak
Perilously close to the tip of a precarious precipice
A long ride for a fall as lads are dragged to the front
In Indian file, again mothers bury sons
Or endlessly anticipate their return
To the land of the rising sun
