Sealed Mouths Poem by Wafula p'Khisa

Sealed Mouths

Once there was a loose-tongued man on this staff
Who scattered secrets to unauthorized ears like grains to fowls
He must have been bred in the wild
where manners aren't on the menu of the moral diet
He hadn't learnt that it's uncouth to look at elders in the eye
and a child can't play with its father's testicles
Until he was hurled out, to do his talking elsewhere.

And our hearts sunk deep, unsure who's next
We sealed mouths, to fire not our thoughts on anything
Nobody's idea is entertained however fresh
The tail doesn't lead the head, namwe?
We've sealed eyes too, not to see evil or the queen's nakedness
and oiled lips to dish out dazzling, wide smiles
amidst thunderous claps when we hear nonsense-
to appear relevant just.

See, we don't speak because we've nothing delicious for your ears
It's because nobody is interested in green ideas
And it's scary to swim across the tide
Man, nobody wants moved to some extreme corner of the world
or interdicted
for trying to reason where faith is king
Better be a coward and live longer.

Beautiful rendition of words to utmost justice. An insightful piece of poetry nicely brought forth in good poetic diction with conviction. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing Wafula.
