I see you from afar from this Gudele hill
where I stand my sight unmarred by the
clattered tin sheets over the plains of Juba
shining against the silver sky on Jebel Kujur
where falcons taunt the wind undaunted by
the searing heat of the Southern Sudan sun.
I shall not melt like wax from this noonday heat
because my spirit is unscorched as I see your
smile upon the clouds and the gentle breeze
brings the scent of your kiss soothing
the parched grasses on my feet.
I stood my ground unmoved by the swirling dust
like a sphinx in the desert; the brown twisters
moan and drown away the cattle herd’s tromping
from a distance, but I remained transfixed
by the thought of your caress.
Tonight I will fly like an eagle into your arms
to find the magic of your embrace!
