Saying Goodbye Poem by John Lance

Saying Goodbye

Rating: 4.5

There was this girl, you see.
She was quite close to me.
She was there in my times of need.
but now where is she?

Swooped away by lying scum.
He says he must leave but still he stays.
He’s gone from acquaintance to deity
in her eyes.
She must say her goodbyes.

Everyday he will leave tomorrow.
Yet still he stays.
Those who would not enjoy their
last day with him are cruel, she says.
She must say her goodbyes.

It is his last night
so she must keep him warm.
He must leave with haste
so there is no time to waste!
She must say her goodbyes.

Her friends begin to wonder.
Can’t she talk about something other than him?
She is shocked.
How could they be so insensitive?
She must say her goodbyes.

One by one they leave.
But she has no time for them anyways.
It is his last day.
Every single day.
She must say her goodbyes.

Then there is me.
And she says to me,
‘All hail him! ’
I don’t look back as I leave.
He has been leaving for a month.
She will never have to say goodbye.

Love is a spiritual experience that affects one profoundly. A lovely narrative piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely penned with conviction. A good poem indeed. Thanks for sharing John, and do remain blessed. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
