Savior Poem by D A Phinney

Savior

I was the child who ran from the cave
Out to the light out to be saved
Where is my savior borne of the sun
This is for killing this is for fun
Here is my Dresden, Auschwitz, and Verdun
Here are my bones, Christ, where is my grave

I was the beggar who crawled from the slime
Starving and groveling not worth your time
Who is my savior one crust of bread
One sip of spirits and no dawn to dread
Are there no angels or are there no dead
Here is my bowl, Christ, where is my dime

I was the man who stood all alone
Whose day is now done whose seasons are flown
What was my savior to my deafened ear
The sky is so dark and my heartbeat so near
Break up my chalice, my temple, my spear
Here am I now, Christ, please take me home
