'Savages' Poem by Essambeh Ebai Essambeh

'Savages'

Calm yet tender, beautiful with a smile,
eyes that glow, an angel we eulogized.
Mother to all, you were so for a while,
Fifty dropped the call, and suddenly you lost all you had for a while.
Constant screams on broken screens, another broken soul weeps every passing day,
Five born from the same cot, the blood line continues the same ritual day after day.
Panic rooms in beautiful homes, so many untold tales,
Mother to all you were for a while, how come you suddenly turned savage?
