Rumours Poem by Michael Varghese

Rumours

Rumours are just around the corner
Just make that bend from the boring routine
And with new vision be seen
By those, all around you
Acquaintances, nobodies, somebodies
Though not everybody
Just those not close enough
Or known long enough
Those who rather just listen, point and watch
Those who’d rather just light a match
Just watch a forest burn instead of using
The match to light a candle to lighten up the night
Those who know not of the flows brought
By the people these rumours have caught
Which like chains on them, hold back and bow down
Not physically but mentally,
The feeling of being trapped helplessly,
Their reply if the culprits are ever asked is just “ simply”
And the end is just a mumbled apology “ I ‘m sorry, you see”

Now back to the beginning
Just after all this had started,
Just after all the mean things were said
It was said that not everybody believed
And not every bad seed took root and gave fruit
Just those distant enough to not know you
Yet close enough to remind you and hurt you
But why bother though
You’ve got your friends right here, so
Just stay in the moment, stay in the now
Stay away from those who might hurt you some how
And just stay in the bright white glow.
Of those who know
How not to absorb everything they hear
Those who tell you not to fear
And those who tell you it will all clear
Those are the ones you should hold dear
Cause they’ll still be there year after year
Never listening to those whispers in their ears

Don’ t bother what people say
Just get through the day
For a number of days do lay
Before in the ground forever you stay
Just grab your pay and get away
From those who would treat your life like clay
And just sit and mould and play
Just throw your existence into the fray
Interpreting everything you do in their own way
And wish you might and wish you may
For them to fade into the gray
But you need not always be their prey
For even though they will fray
Their tales to throw your mind is disarray
Just hold on to sanity and relay
Your distaste for their stories like bad fish fillet
Which may cause a disturbance today
But in the end it will be okay.
