Rose-Coloured Glasses Poem by Robert Smith

Rose-Coloured Glasses

Rating: 3.0

The similarities in the lives of identical twins
prove my theory, our lives are run according
to preset programs, when it has been decreed
that I would be sad on a certain day, I am, even
though nothing has changed in the world, no event
took place, a new feeling simply invades my head
and takes over my life, seeing the world
as a vale of tears

When we suddenly react to cues that do not
originate in the outside world, the inner stream is
running free and no amount of rebellion can stop
the tide, what amused me yesterday might make
me cry today, the only relief is sitting still, not
moving my head; reading books I normally disdain,
just accept I’m being somebody else

Until this goes as suddenly as it came, I hope the
dark glasses worn by this stranger who takes over
my life from time to time and sees all of life as sad
and bleak, gets broken and torn so I can stay in my
choice to look at life through rose-coloured glasses…
