Rio Cobre Poem by dennis Williams

Rio Cobre

Rio Cobre, Rio Cobre
I stand on thy banks and weep
For the many souls devour by thee

Taken some time in their prime
Leaving behind a nation to mourn
A family in grief
Where is thy mercy of Rio Cobre?

Tears like an estuary flow from our eyes
We stand on thy banks and wail
Rio Cobre thy depths are like purgatory

Rio Cobre, Rio Cobre, where does our beloved go
Are you the gate to the great unknown?
Where a hungry monster must be fed
An arid land must be quench
With the tears of our grief

Rio Cobre here we stand
The memories of my lost is haunting
Sisters, brother and friends
Rio Cobre I stand on thy banks and weep

Rio Cobre our hearts are full
Rio Cobre I beg of thee
Spare us from the grief to come
The tears to come
Oh Rio Cobre
Let not thy banks be
A platform
Where grief and tears unite.
