Retribution Poem by Fiona Burgess

Retribution

Rating: 5.0

Her eyes gleam like polished stone
In the fading light of day
Standing poised on the edge of eternity
She releases the chaos from around her.
Keenly, her sights sharpen
Like the predator she is
Watching, waiting for the split second
That counts.
Her body ripples with readiness,
Her prey, so unsuspecting, continues
In his mindless pursuit of pleasure,
Completely unaware of who she is.
Slowly, elegantly, she eases her way toward him.
She sways seductively to the music
Of her own heartbeat.
And he realises there's something dangerous
But he's too caught up in his sudden need
That he disregards his own warnings.
It's not until she's standing before him
Her cold, hard eyes staring soulessly into his own,
That he realises the trap.
In that blink of time his heart stumbles,
And stops.
Fear shatters inside him like super-frozen glass
Shredding his soul and lacerating his body.
As he crumples, lifeless, at her feet she smiles
Her multitude of dedicated minions
Swoop in from the chaos
And gather his remains. Tonight they feast.
Sighing, Retribution gathers the chaos around her
And she stalks back into the melee of eternity
Muttering in irritation, 'This one didnt even run! '
