...that much is true.
But now when you are gone,
why do I miss you?
You have now gone far away
.... Into the silent land,
Why do I now so desire
To hold you by your hand.
Why do I now every moment talk,
Of our future that once you planned?
Remember me please'.. Is what,
I ask of you, with all my heart.

I feel that he has to answer his own question. The I love you not puts the reader out of luck for an reply. If one, in truth, doe not love someone why to miss that person. The I love you not must be mistaken and in fact the person still loves.
