Refugee Poem by Hasan Maruf

Refugee

Rating: 5.0

I'm dry, I dare not lie
Like you living fly
I'm frozen, I can't feel the chill
Of warm skin!
Like you, I just can't jibe
Nor do I have the zip of yours;
I drink; though
I have not the tongue of yours...
I breathe; though
I have not the airs of yours....
I look; though
I have not the eyes of yours
I feel; though
I have not the heart of yours
I dream; though
My share of secretion is not
As stinging as yours!

I do get angry, still
I do not speak in fury...
I do move like you, still
You clothe me in the funeral
Costume of white and mauve blue.

I also have paradoxes like you
But, you taunt them as grinding haiku.
I am like you in umpteenth ways,
Either you don't care or like to weigh.
That's why, you torch my torpid effigy
As if I am a drifting plank in your land
Darting like a refugee.
