Rebirth Poem by Ranjeet Kumar Lal

Rebirth

I was born last night
Mexican tropical light
Flooded my senses
Like grapes on a vine
Humming in the symphony

In unison I pulled myself out
Of my mother’s womb
Only to find
That the city in the plains I longed for
The happy people I longed to meet
The places I longed to see
The music I longed to hear
Had been wrenched from me

The seed planted in me
Extinguished my raphsody
Creed is all that I purport to be
The evil in men does mystify me

Alas came the holy trigger
Shoved me in a ditch under a digger
There I lay to rue upon my fate
Until I was reborn again
