Reality Poem by Alf Hutchison

Reality

Rating: 5.0

In the crowd she passed me by;
Through a land I’d never been,
Might she be a mother, a housewife?
Perhaps some beauty queen.
Her teeth were almost perfect,
White soldiers in a row,
With ruby lips to frame them;
In that land I did not know.
Those stunning eyes still haunt me,
So soft, so pale, so green,
Truly the most stunning eyes,
That I had ever seen,
Her radiant smile, freely given me,
Was etched upon my soul,
Her selfless act of kindness,
Had made my spirit whole.
Then rudely wakened from my dream,
I faced mortality;
In a world that’s forgotten how to smile
…Here in reality.

Alf, you are right we should smile more often. My father taught me to greet everybody with a smile of friendship and respect. However dream endings can be somewhat disappointing sometimes. Enjoyable read. Bob

So true, what does a simple gesture of kindness cost any of us!

That little gesture can mean so much in making somebody's day just a little brighter. You covered the inner thoughts nicely. Excellent write 10++

Never a truer word spoken...how nice if we would smile a hello as we race by in our oh, so busy lives.....I am even to afraid to smile as people think you want something or worse....sad world

Thanks for enjoying my poem, Old Man. I have only read one of your's Reality and had to comment. There is nothing much to smile about in this world today. Now I must read your other poems, keep writing. I have written hundreds of poems but only put a few on the web. Regards Dee
