Rainbow Nation Poem by Zia Eybers

Rainbow Nation

Please allow me to give you an explanation
Of the true meaning of South-Africa’s Rainbow Nation

Sirens are Blue
EMRS always on code Red
A precious life bright and Rosy
Has yet again turned dark and Black

I hope you have a touch of Gold
To safe someone’s fate from going Grey
Another horrific act out of pure envious jealousy gone Green

Flying bullets from a mighty gun deadly Silver
For a Motorola Sliver pretty in Pink
Now another body lies 6 feet beneath earthy Brown
In a casket lined with silky White

You belong in a cage wearing stripes White and Black
But instead you walk guilt free under our sun flaming in Orange
How many bodies should turn to lifeless Purple
Before You realise our Rainbow’s colours has all gone Pale
