Race With Shadows Poem by Barry Middleton

Race With Shadows

Rating: 5.0

I know I can't hide
from shadows inside
they follow wherever I go

and I cannot outrun
the race with the sun
time passes with little to show

I paid quite a price
perhaps once or twice
pretending like shadows pretend

but lies and deceit
I cannot defeat
till shadows have come to an end

the sun starts to fade
and shadows and shade
will drift in the pale afterglow

with daylight's retreat
the darkness is sweet
as I rest where the dark shadows go

A profound write that touches upon a lot of things. Sums up life in a few verses. Man's whole life is a race with shadows. A huge 10.

...and rest and peace. In the end I believe fear may morph into anticipation. Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it.

Τhe hero seems contented being left in the darkness without sun's shadows following him.Since sun is regarded as the life's symbol, have we to suppose that he thinks that he would be happier after life? Nicely pictured.

Well, at the present time, he hopes so. As the least he will find rest which he has had precious little of. We all have out demons that we would like to escape from.

Beautiful poem, the words flowing so nicely to my mind, easily penetrate my imaginary thoughts and to feel...and the picture you shared do create an echoes to this feeling! wonderful poem and picture. They complement each other
