Quiet Poem by Phillip Erb

Quiet

Listless and lost
Vital and sad
Puckered and longing
Lonely and loveless
Smoking cigarettes he cannot afford
Wishing each square was something more
'How do you do, ' is all she wants to hear
But he's petrified and only says, 'Hello.'
He has himself convinced he must be the
Only one on Earth to feel this way each night
But that is impossible
Will he ever realize
He's not the only one.
