Quake Poem by Shaun Jeffreys

Quake

Through the ruins of an abandoned city,
Is a dishevelled road,
Full of ripped and burnt newspapers,
With an unidentified code.

A broke down car,
Seems to be occupied,
The middle aged man in it,
Looks terrified.

Approaching the vehicle,
You ask 'What's the matter'?
To which the driver replies,
'It all happened so fast, everything seemed to shatter'.

Not knowing how to respond you just listen,
'I should have known coming down this road was a mistake ',
You ask what happened,
He replies' I didn't know there was going to be an earthquake'.
