Puppet Master Poem by David Vargas

Puppet Master

I have run through your family amuck
Generation after generation
Making them “sink and sunk”
Finally, I caught up to you
You grown so much
An old man you are
I see that you’ve made loving memories so far and wide
Oh just wait till’ you get a load of me
I will make you forget…everything
Just sit and relax!
As you begin to lose “you”

I laugh wickedly as you forget to take a morning walk
I smile grimly when you misplace the remote, you’re frustrated
Trying, trying and trying to find it
This is only the beginning my friend
I’m just getting started

Misplacing the remote is not enough…
I want to make you cry like a baby, squeal like a pig
I want to see your loved ones hopeless
I want to see you helpless
So, I step up my game

I sleep soundly as you wake up constantly in the silent night
You feel flustered
You feel weak, so stress in the morning
As for me I feel energize but I should care less
“NO! NO! I would say
Your delusions and your agitation make me stronger everyday! ”
I want more

You feel alone yet there’s your wife with you
But you don’t even recognize her
She cries as the tears run down her cheeks
Her woes and her murmurs are like violins playing in symphony
I am the cause, I am the conductor!
I conduct this sweet music of sorrow!

I beam when you go to the doctors
That means that your wife is desperate, but
You don’t even know what is going on
The doctor says there is no cure
Your wife is in shock
No way to kill me, I’m unstoppable

The medicine that the doctor prescribed can’t slow me down
The life of yours is fading and fading
You desperately try to grasp what’s left
It brings the utmost joy to me
When you hallucinate, when you can’t understand the words of encouragement from your grand-children and, when you can’t even prepare a meal
Why would I stop the fun?

You are mine; you are a puppet and I’m the puppet master
I control your mind, the greatest gift that you could ever get
And it’s mine
You do my bidding without even knowing
You can never escape from me
I have taken everything you hold dear to your heart…
I just hope you’ll remember that
