Psalm 5 Poem by Parker Perrella

Psalm 5

Listen to my words, Lord,
Consider my meditation-
You hear the voices of my tears
Though they are beyond comprehension.

Hear the appeals of your people,
My God and my King,
I arrange my prayers like wood on your altar,
A sacred offering.
In holy preparation I come before you-
In the Holy of Holies-
I lift my eyes to the heavens
And wait for you expectantly.

Deliver me from my enemies-
For you do not delight in evil-
You cannot tolerate men of bloodshed
And the treacherous you abhor.
But the righteous shall enter your house,
By mercies innumerable,
Not by human merits,
But by grace unfathomable.

Lord, lead me in your way,
Lest I falter in my own-
Let me gaze down your path with clear vision,
Fixed on you alone.

Drive out the wicked,
Let their end be their destruction.
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice,
May you eternally shelter them.
Surround them with your favor,
Let it be their glory and protection
Forever and ever,
Amen.
