Prometheus Poem by Francis Duggan

Prometheus

Prometheus stole fire from the supreme God Zeus and gave it to the mortals in their cave
He deceived Zeus for to help the poor Prometheus he was brave
He was punished by Zeus but from the poor Zeus could not take back the fire
The legend of Prometheus is a legend to inspire.

A legend of mythology or call him what you may
Prometheus is a Greek God Prometheus lives today
I do like what he stands for a better human race
'Twould seem the concept of a better World to live in Prometheus does embrace.

A kinder and compassionate side to Humanity in a World free of violence and of hate
What Prometheus symbolizes amounts to something great
The World needs a kinder God and not a God we fear
That is why the legend of Prometheus is one of which we love to hear.

Prometheus is a Greek God of mythology 'twould seem
The compassionate and peaceful World he symbolizes is many people's dream
For the modern God many believe in the human blood flows like a rill
Do we need a God that we so fear that for him we will kill?

The World forever changing and the past forever gone
Though the legend of Prometheus today is living on
A figure of mythology and few to him now pray
But the legend of Prometheus is alive and well today.
