Prisoner Poem by Neil Graham Marsden

Prisoner

Within this world of black and grey
Where jangling keys invade the day
As slamming doors vibrate the feet
All too familiar faces meet

A place of hopelessness and shame
Where numbers now replace each name
Hard uniforms make none unique
Here where all views are stark and bleak

With every day just like before
Behind the heavy cold steel door
In dreams the only place to find
A refuge for un-captured mind

To soar above the walls tonight
As smallest wishes take great flight
To open spaces far away
Sheltered from the next long day
