Powerful Dirt

A state's search for money let dirty companies in
and get away with dumping in their backyards
poisons that enter the water table and air
and hang around for years.

A state knows
that once a dirty company's in
it can make itself well-nigh indispensable
and will be let get away with getting dirtier.

A state with such history and knowledge,
you'd logically think,
would find money
elsewhere than in powerful dirt.
