Ponderings Poem by Angela Michel

Ponderings

Life not as grand
as you thought it would be.
This common feeling
has come over me.
Those dreams and desires
that dwelt in my head,
long years of reality
has left them all dead.
My parents did tell me (and I believed)
'you can be anything you want to be'

Now many years later
I have come to know,
though much is promised
tis not always so.
And anything, anything I want to be
is not always the thing
that is needed from me.

Though struggle and pain
makes you stronger they say,
I tire of struggling everyday.
I'm 'strong as an ox'
but still I don't know
which dream to pursue
and which to let go.

All I am seeking
is peace and a bed
and some time to ponder these
thoughts in my head.
As I grow older
my hair turns to snow
and I grow wiser, for one thing I know,
no matter the pressures,
what I want to be
is a healthy old lady
enjoying my tea.

Life sometimes is not easy. Getting just the basics could be a difficult task.

Very true. This perhaps is a feeling that everyone goes through at some point in life.
