Pondering & Thinking Poem by Ellen Ni Bheachain

Pondering & Thinking

Rating: 5.0

Last week I said I would improve myself,
By Friday I had forgotten I even told myself,
Saturday, I wondered where I would like to go,
And spent the best part of the day thinking about doing so,
Until it became too late in the day for doing anything at all.

Sunday, I thought 'What shall I do? ',
Thinking, I will go and be somewhere else,
Not knowing exactly where that place is,
Just thinking a change is as good as a rest,
A bit of nature would be nice,
Fresh air and nice trails to walk,

Instead, I curl up on the couch,
With cup in hand feeling warm and safe,
Watch an old movie,
Feeling good and put the nature plan on hold,
Telling myself the weather is not so good,
The weather should be better next week?

Next week comes along and I tell myself again,
This week I am going to improve myself,
Learn something new and put it to use,
This is where I stop and think,
I will just do that, learn something new,
And this time I put that plan into action,
By midweek I have signed up,
And chose a course,
To upskill my skills,
To learn something new,

With that in hand, I felt good about myself,
Then I sit back in the couch and think to myself,
I will save up some cash,
And take off to somewhere nice,
A little adventure, sightseeing a new place,
I will get with nature and enjoy those trails too,
Perhaps, I will book with a group,
And meet some new people too,

By the next Sunday, I have thought it through,
I have started something new,
And plan to go somewhere new,
Now that I have started,
I will go on as planned,
And then I will think of something else to do,
But for now, that will do,
Pondering and thinking done for now.

One thing is true,
Pondering and thinking can be good to do,
For to ponder is to reflex,
And this is good for you to do,
But to ponder and think too long,
It will get you nowhere,
But stuck in the past,
For pondering and thinking too long,
Will leave you stuck on the couch.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
With too much time on your hands you can get set in your ways. Sometimes it is best to get yourself out of that mundane mood and do something different.Pondering and thinking will get you started but don't ponder too long as it may leave you still thinking and doing nothing about it.E-NíB.
