Poetry For Children: A Question For Santa! ©

'Twas weeks before Christmas, when I plotted a plan,
I meant to catch Santa, that jolly old man!

I stashed bells at the windows, that would ring when he came,
He wouldn't see me, two could play at that game!

Under the cover, I would pretend to be sleeping,
But I would be wide awake, and constantly peeping!

When I heard jingling bells, I would jump out of bed
and knock Santa smartly, with my bat, on his head!

Now, don't you be worried; Now, don't you fret,
I need him to be knocked out, Oh! don't be so upset!

I would tie him up tightly, sit him on the armchair,
I'd would try on his cap, and his fancy footwear!

And when he awoke, I would give him a hug,
and offer him milk, from Granny's old mug;

I would ask why he makes, such old fashioned toys,
and why on earth no presents, for the naughty boys?

Surely, all boys needs toys, naughty or not;
He must change this old rule! Well, that's what I thought!

I chuckled with glee, at my magnificent plan,
to find Mama peering at me, in that way that she can...

Now, my Mama is sweet, the soft, gentle kind,
but she has an incredible, magical mind!

She knows what I'm thinking, she knows every thought,
which is why that so often, my mischief is caught!

So, I whispered to her, the course of my action,
She seemed to be moved, to the ends of distraction...

She sneezed rather softly, and coughed quite a bit,
It sounded as if she had, a laughing fit...

She kissed both my cheeks, and patted my head,
with huggles and cuddles, she tucked me into bed.

With a sparkle in her, laughing bright eyes,
She whispered to me, this motherly advice...

"You've written to Santa, for a brand new football,
Abandon your plan, or he won't come at all! "
