Plight Of The Netball Keeper Poem by Steffi Webster

Plight Of The Netball Keeper

This poem is based on something that happened to me the other week. Enjoy!

I've got P.E. now hoorah hooray
I wish we had it every day
You must know I'm being sarcastic
Doing P.E. is fr from fantastic
Pull on the uniform, up with the skirt
Pray that you wont get too hurt
Toay it is the dreaded netball
We all wait for the bell to call
Into the gale my friends now run
But I am not expecting fun
I am the keeper, who no one needs
On my pain my teacher feeds
The ball is flying, the girls charge
My chances of getting it arn't large
Here in my sector I pace to and fro
I can't wait for the time to go
In my heart I'm a runner, a thurst for action
Back here I get little satisfaction
If they's give me a chance, then they's see
There is so much more to me
Here I feel like a wolf in a cage
In my gut frustration reigns
Now I pace and pad and prowl
In my throat I feel a growl
But when the ball comes in my sight
I have no room to use my might
The rest all block me, no room to move
My style is suddenly far from smooth
I fluff a pass, I miss by miles
Suddenly I'm in a sea of smiles
Now I'm a figure of ridicule
Yeah, go on, laugh at the fool
But sudenly there's an injury
They could forfeit but turn to me
Could this prowling clumsy nut,
Save the game and make the cut?
On the whistle I'm off and away
As fast as a bullet out into the fray
Now with the freedom to move and run
I'm suprising everyone
As soon as I'm out I seem to fly
The ball soars up into the sky
One single leap an it's in my hand
I've thrown it before I have time to land
Then it's done, I've finally scored
I just bask as the crowds applaud
The others just look on in awe
Then never dreamed that I could score
Now I'm always in attack
There's no way I'll ever go back
