Places Where They Live Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Places Where They Live

When people start the process,
With interest taken to investigate...
Their own history made.
In places where they live.
And feel it necessary to celebrate,
Those who have contributed their efforts...
Time and lives sacrificed.
Maybe then they can begin to appreciate,
Each other.
Family, foe or friend.
Not for the things they have acquired.
Eventually to become meaningless.
But for who they are as a people.
Done to do to initiate pride, dignity.
And a feeling of identity and self worth.
To pass this on as priceless.
Without shopping through a mall.
Seeking something to purchase to impress.
Leaving nothing on their minds kept addressed.
Accept to expect,
Where it is folks go to get and make...
That most important,
Attention grabbing next impression!
