Pillow Talk Poem by Nanda Regine Kabali-Kagwa

Pillow Talk

Sleep is that gentle sailing down a stream of nothingness
No dreams need to butt in
To make thee a pleasant journey

Sleep is that breath of fresh air
Body taking a timeout, mind going overtime however

Overtime

Thoughts are constantly knocking
Then aggressively banging to gain my conscious affection
But I'm tired
I'm worn out already

Not even a caress from my mind
Acknowledging the restless beings
Can tamper their need to be...

Felt
Heard
Experienced again

Experienced again...

I sigh the heaviness out of my lungs
And open the door
I'm sleep deprived and their hungry

So they cornered me
I looked up at each memory,
Each thought pressing me to...
Inhale the emotions I chose to disguise
To pick up the feelings I shoved under my shoe and...
To live through it, entirely.

Sleep is that heavy weight you feel on your back
Gravity grounding you, when your mind won't let you

Won't let you.
