Ph: Life: Acting Out Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Life: Acting Out

If all folks “acting out” wear their hearts on their sleeve
It makes some of us wonder what love’s really like
But then “acting” suggests a duplicitous stage
Possibility rising of head on a spike!
Could it be all the hubbub is meant to deceive,
That heart’s simply a cover for uncontrolled rage?

How can love that is love not support those you love,
How not lift up your lovers as though they were self?
Is your love born to serve or to satisfy need?
What if love should demand you put pride on the shelf?
And just what would you sacrifice, push comes to shove,
To not sacrifice loved ones to personal greed?

I invite you to think about just who you serve,
Do you want to serve man or aspire to serve God?
There are times loving God means to let others go
Greatest good sometimes means giving freedom a nod
And though this might be seen as inviting life curve
It’s through trusting in God that we find our ego.
