Peter Barkworth As Sassoon Poem by Daphne Grant

Peter Barkworth As Sassoon

Rating: 3.0

With Peter Barkworth as Sassoon,
And his imaginary torn platoon,
We wandered through a long time past
Relived again the horrors in the grime.

We too confusion felt as man must kill,
The soul's dilemma still not solved
When gentle hearts arrested still
From grief when fellow soldiers died.
“We hid our tears, lest others see that we had cried.

Triumphant now, the clamorous note!
Of voices singing, still imaginary
Imagination can seem real
When played by such an equerry!

When again will Nuffield see?
Such sophic play on poetry?
One player many parts
Touched our imagination, and our hearts.
