Perspectives Poem by Jason Caporaletti

Perspectives

I see my teacher lecturing
but I am filled with doubt
No way the world's so relative
as he has so laid out

I see him sitting front and center
What a teacher's pet
The world is full of sheep like him
his own thought he'll forget

I see her staring at him
and I think jealously
'I've loved you since the seventh grade!
Will you ever notice me? '

He's checking her out during class
A pig just like my ex
he'll use her then he'll leave her
since all guys want just sex

'She's pretty, ' I think quietly
Must have a nice boyfriend
I wish I was not ugly
so that I could get a man

I see her watch the pretty one,
lesbian feminist
Bravely out of the closet
Wish I was so honest

Why does he like the ugly one?
He's giving her puppy eyes
Someone needs to get out more
and find a better time

I see him give a little smirk,
I must have missed a joke
I'm trying hard to understand
but fear this class I'll choke

He listen's so intensely
I bet he'll do well on the test
I hate overachievers
who always have to be the best

I see her looking at his notes
probably cheats off his tests too
I guess I better cheat as well
what else is one to do?

I see my students pondering
I hope that they hear me
when I say our perspective
will change everything we see.
