Perilous Times Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Perilous Times

1-Of perilous times
and perilous days
let me sing:
you Muse already have
inspired me
already inducted me
into the perilous
around me
every days raise
their heads dangerous
each peril of a
throng-horde of perils.
O Earth
O Mother Earth
O Mother
2-day after day
rolls
has rolled
the car of the days gone
leaves exhaust in its wake
that is
behind it:
even we
even we
flash point
that goes and flickers
fires of the brain
fires that bruise
the Inner Soul
leaping up through
day after day
the night
the scream of Dawn
sudden oft opposed
to the slow stealthy
Dusk
cunning.
3-destroy barbarian
I, the self, I
the Poet Seer
destroy the power of
man over man
no
no circumstance justify
that
else man be born free
only at birth?
the marathon walk
that we
in history walked
and
when the marathon ended
another begun
marathon after marathon:
so much pain
so much suffering
unrequited
and
into the skip I threw
away,
I Poet Seer feel guilt
yet
no hand let be raised
on me,
the same with man
or man.
4-over seas and waters
commit me
Muse.
Over the Ocean waters
treading
flying low
where no cruel hand
will reach me:
I have left the land
and be as one
with seas and Oceans
close eyes in sleep
as
seas and Oceans sleep
rise
sudden in first lights and
Dawns
seas and Oceans
5-destroy me
barbarian hand
destroy me
though by Principle
complete destruction be not
ever
yet irrespective
you will not destroy
all
the Inner Soul be too
high
for that
