Past Poem by Eugene Mattingly

Past

As I gaze out my window
and see what time has done
I remember some faces
but not everyone.

There were people along the way
that brought me joy and happiness
and there were some in that day
that's not worthy for me to say,

the past is past and that as it may
should be where things should stay
there are always thoughts of happy times
and I tend to forget the ones that were gray,

As I lift up my eyes and see
a new dawn is breaking today
and the memories of yesterday
fade in the glory of a new day.

Now is the time to be happy
now is the time to rejoice
for we have won the race
and this is now a happy place.
